iOS 27 could drop support for these iPhone models

Apple’s next big iPhone update might leave a few older devices behind.

According to a new leak, iOS 27 is expected to support the iPhone 12 series and newer. This means several popular models could miss out on the upgrade entirely.

If accurate, that would mark the end of the road for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and the second-generation iPhone SE. These devices would remain on iOS 26. However, they’re still expected to receive security updates for the next few years, which should soften the blow for users not ready to upgrade just yet.

The information comes from “Instant Digital,” a leaker on Weibo with a mixed but sometimes reliable track record. As always with early Apple rumours, it’s worth taking this with a pinch of salt. However, the cutoff does line up with Apple’s typical support window.

On the flip side, iOS 27 is tipped to work across a wide range of newer devices. This includes the iPhone 12 lineup through to the latest iPhone 16 models. It will also support upcoming devices like the iPhone 17 series. That’s a fairly standard spread, but there’s a catch: some of the headline features may be limited to newer hardware. In particular, any updates tied to Apple Intelligence are expected to require at least an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.

As for what’s actually new, iOS 27 is reportedly shaping up to be more of a refinement release than a major overhaul. Think bug fixes, stability improvements, and smaller tweaks rather than sweeping changes. Early rumours point to a standalone Siri app, improved autocorrect, and even a system-wide control for adjusting the opacity of Apple’s Liquid Glass interface.

Apple is expected to unveil iOS 27 at WWDC on June 8, 2026, with a developer beta likely landing the same day. A public beta should follow in July, ahead of a full rollout in September.

If the leak holds up, it might be time for iPhone 11 owners to start thinking about what comes next.
