If digital photo frames feel a bit too “set and forget,” these new E Ink fridge magnets from VidaBay take a more hands-on approach.
The company’s latest gadget combines a retro Polaroid-style design with modern NFC tech. This lets you display and swap out photos straight from your phone.
At a glance, they look like miniature instant prints stuck to your fridge. But instead of paper, each magnet uses a colour E Ink display. This means the image stays visible without consuming power. In fact, these magnets are completely battery-free and don’t need charging. So once you’ve loaded a photo, it’ll stay there indefinitely until you decide to change it.
That update process is where things get interesting. It’s especially seamless with an iPhone, as you can just tap the magnet using NFC via the VidaBay Snap app, and your new image transfers instantly. Android users can still do the same, however it will require a separate Bluetooth Image Dock accessory, which is expected to launch in May.
The Snap app itself adds a bit more flexibility, too, with options to tweak images with filters, overlays and effects before sending them over. This leans into the whole Polaroid aesthetic rather than just dumping a photo onto a screen.

While the obvious use case is showing off favourite snaps, VidaBay is also pitching these as mini display boards. You can use them for reminders, to-do lists, or even quick notes. Essentially, this turns your fridge into a low-power, customisable info hub.
Design-wise, there’s a bit of personality here as well. The magnets come in multiple border colours, including black, white, yellow, green, red, and blue. There are optional extras like leather cases or hanging pouches if you don’t want to stick them to a surface.
Pricing starts at $30.99 (around £23) for a single unit, with a three-pack available for $88.99 (roughly £65). It’s not trying to replace a full digital frame. However, as a small, tactile way to actually revisit your photos day-to-day, it’s a neat twist on both smart displays and old-school magnets.
