Spotify’s latest update turns funny podcast moments into bite-size clips

Spotify is rolling out Podcast Clips, a new feature designed to make it easier to surface and share standout moments from long-form podcast episodes without sending the entire show.

The tool is available globally on mobile for both Free and Premium users, and it integrates directly into the Now Playing screen. While listening to a supported podcast, users can tap a new scissors icon to open a simple editing interface. From there, it’s possible to select a precise moment and trim it to length. You can then preview it before saving the clip.

Once created, clips are stored in Your Library, where they can be replayed, organised, or added to podcast playlists. Sharing is also more flexible than before. Spotify now offers four sharing formats: full episode, chapter, timestamp, or clip. That means users can choose between sending a broad recommendation or highlighting a very specific moment in a conversation.

This shift reflects how podcasts are increasingly serving as a primary source of news and commentary, especially as high-profile guests and tech executives opt for long-form podcast appearances rather than traditional media interviews. In that context, key moments often get buried inside hour-long episodes and are easy to miss for anyone who doesn’t listen from start to finish.

Podcast Clips effectively solves that problem. It does so by turning isolated moments into shareable, standalone pieces of content. For listeners, it reduces friction — instead of explaining why a moment matters, they can just send it. For creators, it also works as a discovery tool. It helps new audiences find their show through a single segment, rather than committing to an entire episode upfront.

The update arrives as part of a broader feature push from Spotify. The company has recently expanded into AI-generated content with Studio by Spotify Labs, along with narrated articles from publishers like Rolling Stone and Vogue. Spotify is also experimenting with AI tools that allow Premium users to generate remixes and custom cover art for licensed tracks.

Collectively, Podcast Clips feels less like a standalone addition and more like another step in Spotify’s ongoing effort to turn audio into more modular, shareable pieces of content.
