Android 17 is coming this summer – here are all the Pixel phones that made the cut

Google has confirmed that Android 17 will reach Pixel 6 and newer devices this summer.

The confirmed device list covers the entire Pixel 6 series which launched back in 2021, including the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro and even the affordable Pixel 6a. Naturally, the update will also reach every model in the Pixel 7, Pixel 8, Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 lines, with the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet also confirmed to receive the update.

This rollout is particularly signifiant for the Pixel 6 family, as Android 17 is expected to mark the final major Android release to support that first generation of Tensor-series Pixels. That makes this update this last guarantees upgrade for Pixel 6 owners.

The Android 17 feature set introduces several changes to core system behaviour, including app screen sharing which enables users to share a single application window during video calls rather than broadcasting the full display, a privacy improvement that addresses a common frustration with existing screen-share implementations.

Alongside that, the update introduces saved app pairs, which bundle two frequently used split-screen applications into a single home screen shortcut that both launch simultaneously, reducing the manual steps currently required to enter and configure split-screen mode.

Android 17 also adds a notification cooldown system that lowers the alert volume when a high volume of messages arrives from the same app or chat group in quick succession. If you’re part of a particularly talkative group chat, this will undoubtedly be a game-changer.

The update further includes an asset protection lock feature that uses the device accelerometer to detect sudden snatching movements and immediately locks the screen, requiring biometric authentication to regain access in an approach comparable to iPhone’s own theft-deterrent systems.

Google has not confirmed an exact release date for Android 17 beyond the summer window, though the beta programme has been running for several months, suggesting the stable release is in its final testing phases.
