Topping has unveiled the E50 II, a compact DAC designed to bring high-end audio features to a more affordable price point.
The E50 II slots into Topping’s entry-level E Series line-up, arriving with a surprisingly ambitious specification. At its heart is AKM’s latest AK4497S DAC chip, a component more commonly associated with significantly more expensive audio gear. Topping says this helps deliver greater detail, dynamic range and overall fidelity from digital music sources.
The E50 II is a pure DAC rather than a headphone amplifier. This means it intends to sit between a digital source and existing audio equipment such as active speakers, integrated amplifiers, or dedicated headphone amps. Its compact aluminium chassis also makes it well suited to desktop setups where space is at a premium.
Alongside USB-C connectivity, the DAC includes optical and coaxial inputs. Outputs are available via both RCA and balanced 6.35mm TRS connections. Those outputs can even be used simultaneously, allowing the E50 II to feed multiple audio systems at once.

One of the more notable additions is support for Topping’s new Home app on iOS and Android. Through the app, users can adjust settings and switch inputs. They can also access a 10-band parametric EQ system for more detailed sound customisation.
That’s a feature rarely seen on DACs at this price point and should appeal to listeners looking to fine-tune their setup without relying on external software.
High-resolution audio support is equally comprehensive, with compatibility for PCM files up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD512 playback. Bluetooth is also onboard, with support for higher-quality codecs including LDAC and aptX Adaptive.
While the headline specs impress, the E50 II’s biggest appeal may simply be its flexibility. Whether users place it at the centre of a desktop audio setup or connect it to active speakers, it offers many conveniences that often feature for more expensive DACs.
The Topping E50 II is available now in black, white and silver finishes, priced at £199.
