Apple’s touchscreen MacBook is starting to sound more and more real

Fresh momentum is building behind Apple’s long-rumoured first Mac with a touchscreen display, with a supply chain leaker now claiming the feature is fully confirmed for an upcoming MacBook Ultra model expected to arrive later this year.

According to Macworld, the leaker known as Instant Digital posted to Weibo on Thursday to state that a touchscreen MacBook screen is “100% confirmed,” though the publication notes the account has a limited record of verifiable accurate predictions about upcoming Apple products.

That leaker’s comments arrive days after an Omdia report suggested the MacBook Ultra could ship as early as July 2026, a timeframe that sits at odds with guidance from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who has consistently placed the device in a late 2026 or early 2027 window based on his own sourcing.

Gurman’s more recent reporting has narrowed that expectation somewhat, with Bloomberg’s current position indicating the laptop could make its debut before the end of 2026, though a release within the next several weeks remains unlikely given the scale of the development involved.

Beyond the touchscreen functionality, the MacBook Ultra looks set to mark another significant hardware milestone for Apple’s laptop line, with Samsung Display reportedly preparing 14.3-inch and 16.3-inch OLED panels for the device, making it the first Apple laptop to ship with an OLED screen.

The pairing of OLED and touch input would represent the most substantial redesign of the MacBook Pro formula in years, placing Apple’s flagship laptop on a trajectory that rivals such as Microsoft’s Surface and a wide range of Windows-based machines have occupied for some time.

Apple has not confirmed pricing or availability for any touchscreen Mac model, though the convergence of multiple independent sources on a late 2026 launch window suggests the company is deep into the final stages of development.
