Boox’s latest e-reader could replace your Kindle and notebook

Boox has unveiled a new version of its smallest e-reader that could be an appealing option for anyone who can’t decide between a Kindle and a digital notebook.

The new Go 6 (Gen II) keeps the pocket-friendly 6-inch form factor of the original model while adding support for Boox’s InkSense Plus stylus. As a result, what was previously a straightforward e-reader now becomes a device that can also handle handwritten notes, document annotations and quick sketches.

That addition is arguably the biggest upgrade here. While dedicated note-taking e-readers like the Remarkable Paper Pro focus heavily on handwriting features, the Go 6 (Gen II) aims to combine those tools with a more traditional reading experience in a much smaller package.

Elsewhere, the hardware remains familiar. The Go 6 (Gen II) features a 6-inch E Ink display with a sharp 300ppi resolution, while RAM has been increased from 2GB to 3GB. It also includes adjustable front lighting, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a battery that Boox says should last for weeks between charges.

What continues to set Boox apart from Amazon and Kobo, however, is its software. The Go 6 (Gen II) runs Android 11 and supports the Google Play Store. This means you’re not locked into a single ebook ecosystem; users can install the Kindle app, Kobo app and a wide range of note-taking software, all on the same device.

That flexibility extends to storage too. While many entry-level e-readers stick to fixed internal storage, Boox includes 32GB of storage as standard and allows further expansion via a microSD card slot.

Of course, the note-taking experience may not rival premium digital paper devices costing hundreds more. However, that’s not really the point. The Go 6 (Gen II) looks designed for readers who occasionally want to jot down ideas, mark up documents or capture notes without carrying a separate device.

At $199.99, it’s more expensive than an entry-level Kindle or Kobo Clara BW. However, by combining ebook reading, note-taking and access to multiple bookstores in a single device, the Go 6 (Gen II) offers something those rivals can’t.

The Boox Go 6 (Gen II) is available to pre-order now and is expected to ship on 17 June. The InkSense Plus stylus is sold separately for $45.99, or as part of a bundle priced at $232.99.
