Apple has started rolling out new firmware updates for its AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, and Beats Studio Buds. There are minor version bumps across the lineup. However, no major feature changes have been announced.
The AirPods Pro 3 update moves the firmware to version 8B41, up from 8B40, while the AirPods Pro 2 updates to 8B41 from 8B39. This brings both models onto the same firmware build. As usual, Apple hasn’t provided any details on what’s included in the update, with no specific changes listed in its support documentation.
The update also extends to Beats hardware, with the Beats Studio Buds receiving new firmware version 1B211, replacing 1B204.
Apple typically keeps firmware updates for its audio products fairly lightweight on details. Most changes happen under the hood. That means users are unlikely to notice new functionality immediately. Even so, users may see improvements in connection stability, audio performance, or battery optimisation.
Moreover, installing the update isn’t something you can trigger manually in the same way as a standard software download. Instead, Apple relies on an automatic process that runs in the background. To get the latest firmware, your AirPods need to be within range of an iPhone, iPad, or Mac and connected via Bluetooth.
From there, the process is fairly specific: connect your Apple device to Wi-Fi, place the AirPods in their charging case, and plug the case into power. Keep the lid closed and leave everything undisturbed for at least 30 minutes while the firmware installs. After that, users can check the version number in settings. They can repeat the process if the update hasn’t appeared.
While Apple hasn’t shared a changelog, these incremental firmware updates are a routine part of maintaining its audio ecosystem. They ensure compatibility and reliability across devices. For most users, it’s a quiet but necessary update that keeps everything running smoothly in the background.
