Without doubt, this is the most exciting gaming tablet of 2026

RedMagic has launched the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro, a 9-inch Android tablet packing active liquid cooling and a built-in PC emulator with Steam support.

The 5 Pro – known as the RedMagic Astra 2 in certain regions – is in a small category of Android devices that target the handheld PC gaming audience rather than conventional tablet users, with the liquid cooling system made visible through a quirky transparent rear panel with RGB lighting as a deliberate design statement.

The tablet runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a processor that typically requires significant thermal headroom to sustain peak performance across extended workloads, and the liquid cooling infrastructure addresses that constraint without the throttling that limits most fanless Android devices in this tier.

On the front, there’s a 9.06-inch OLED panel with a 185Hz refresh rate, a peak HDR brightness of 1600 nits and a full-screen brightness of 1100 nits – very impressive figures, and above many of the best tablets around.

Beyond the display and processor, the Steam compatibility built into the PC emulator extends access to a portion of the Steam catalogue on an Android device. Though the emulator does not support every title in the library, RedMagic recommends a gamepad for most sessions.

The 8300mAh battery supports up to 80W charging across two USB-C ports. This dual-port layout allows simultaneous charging and peripheral connection without occupying the single port you’d typically find. This is a trick employed by some of the best gaming phones.

Additional hardware includes a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button and a physical red slider that activates gaming mode, prioritising processing resources toward the active application to reduce background interference during sustained sessions.

The RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro launches in China at CNY 4,999, or around £566, in a configuration with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

International availability follows under the RedMagic Astra 2 name, though neither a confirmed launch date nor pricing outside China has been announced at this stage.
