Samsung’s next foldable phones could come with even steeper price tags in the US.
According to Korean publication Sedaily, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 will start at $1,899 for the 256GB model. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, meanwhile, will cost $2,099. This makes it $100 more expensive than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 was at launch.
That said, the report notes that Samsung is still reviewing its pricing strategy, so the final figures could still change before the official announcement.
The latest leak lines up with pricing rumours from Europe that surfaced earlier this week. Those suggest the Fold 8 Ultra will start at €2,199 for 256GB. For 512GB, the price rises to €2,399, and for the 1TB version, it rises to €2,799. The standard Fold 8 is expected to start at €1,999. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is tipped to begin at €1,299.
While pricing has grabbed most of the attention, the report also offers another look at Samsung’s upcoming foldables. Both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra are likely to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. However, the standard Fold 8 will make a few hardware compromises to keep its price below the Ultra.
The Fold 8 is said to feature a 5.4-inch cover display and a 7.8-inch foldable inner screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Compared with the Ultra, it will also include two rear cameras instead of three. In addition, it will likely have a slightly smaller battery, while retaining the same flagship chipset.
Adding to the growing pile of leaks, a Reddit user has also shared what appears to be a photo of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8 already on display inside a Samsung retailer in South Korea. The image appears to show the Fold 8 in a light blue finish alongside black versions of the Fold 8 Ultra and Flip 8.
Samsung is set to make everything official during Galaxy Unpacked on July 22. Until then, these prices remain unofficial. However, if they’re accurate, buyers may need to brace themselves for Samsung’s most expensive foldables yet.
