Marshall has unveiled its first artist signature amplifier in 14 years. The company has teamed up with Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong on a new limited-edition head, inspired by the guitarist’s unmistakable Dookie-era sound.
The Marshall 1959BJA Artist Signature was first spotted during Green Day’s performance at the 2026 Super Bowl. During the event, fans noticed a distinctive baby-blue amp head sitting behind Armstrong on stage and now it’s official, with the company confirming the amp will go on sale from 21 July through authorised Marshall retailers.
Rather than being an entirely new design, the 1959BJA builds on Marshall’s hand wired 1959HW platform.
However, it introduces a custom “Dookie Mod” developed alongside Armstrong. Inspired by the tone he created with producer Rob Cavallo during Green Day’s breakthrough years, the updated circuit adds more gain and tighter low-end response. Furthermore, it delivers the punchier distortion that has become synonymous with his playing.
Marshall has also given the amplifier a look that’s unmistakably Billie Joe. The head is finished in baby blue, paying tribute to Armstrong’s first guitar, “Blue”. In addition, brass and silver control panels, custom branding and his signature appear on both the front and rear. It’s being sold as a head-only unit, allowing players to pair it with the speaker cabinet of their choice.

The amplifier itself is a serious piece of kit. It delivers 100W of power using three ECC83 preamp valves and four EL34 power valves, alongside a single-channel layout with presence, gain, master volume and a three-band EQ. Around the back are two speaker outputs with selectable 16Ω, 8Ω and 4Ω impedance. Plus, there are high and low inputs for different playing styles.
Marshall says the amp has been handwired in the UK. Each unit has been refined through the company’s R&D process and tested for touring reliability.
The launch marks another chapter in Marshall’s long-running relationship with Armstrong. He most recently appeared in the company’s campaign for its Monitor III ANC headphones.
Speaking about the collaboration, Armstrong said: “I’m so overjoyed to have my own signature Marshall amp. These amps have been a part of my musical life, from my heroes down to little old me. Turn it the f**k up!!”
Marshall hasn’t confirmed pricing yet, but the 1959BJA Artist Signature will be available from 21 July. Regional pricing will be announced closer to launch.
