It looks like Samsung is expecting the wide Fold 8 to be the most popular

Samsung’s production numbers hint that the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 will outsell its Ultra sibling.

That production split emerges from a new supply chain report, published ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on 22 July, which cites industry sources familiar with the company’s manufacturing plans.

The report puts the Galaxy Z Fold 8 order volume at around 2.8 million units, compared with roughly 2 million units for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and 1.5 million units for the Galaxy Z Flip 8.

That gap is notable given that manufacturers typically reserve their largest production runs for entry-level or mid-range models rather than a premium Ultra variant, a pattern that suggests Samsung expects the standard Fold 8 to outsell its higher-specified sibling by a wide margin this generation.

The wide-screen Fold 8 also arrives as Apple prepares its own book-style foldable, the iPhone Ultra, which industry reports suggest could launch in September, setting up a direct rivalry between the two companies’ foldable flagships.

Samsung’s approach differs from Apple’s rumoured design in its aspect ratio, with the Fold 8 expected to adopt a wider 4:3 profile rather than the narrower cover-and-inner-screen proportions found on earlier Z Fold generations.

Samsung has confirmed that both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset, a processor tier reserved for the company’s most demanding flagship workloads.

Leaked specifications point to a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover screen on the standard Fold 8, paired with a 4,800mAh battery and a dual rear camera setup that trims back the triple-lens arrays found on Samsung’s S-series flagships.

Samsung has not confirmed UK pricing or release dates for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 line, though full details are expected to arrive at the Galaxy Unpacked event on 22 July.
