Samsung is finally giving the Galaxy Z Flip’s cover screen the upgrade many users have been asking for.
Rather than simply displaying widgets and notifications, the Galaxy Z Flip 8’s redesigned Flex Window is built to let you do much more without ever opening the phone. This makes the external display genuinely useful instead of feeling like a secondary screen.
Samsung says the new Flex Window has been redesigned around a full home screen experience, complete with Quick Settings, notifications and an app tray. More importantly, it supports a wider range of tasks directly from the cover display. For example, users can use AI assistants and even complete actions such as hailing a ride without unfolding the phone.
The company is also introducing an upgraded Now Brief experience, an AI-powered feature that proactively surfaces useful information throughout the day. It can display personalised cards covering everything from pollen levels and UV forecasts to other contextual updates, with 112 different cards to choose from.

The Flip 8 also comes with Google Gemini and Bixby built into the cover screen experience. This is alongside a complimentary six-month subscription to Google AI Pro, further reinforcing Samsung’s push to make AI a core part of its latest foldables.
Beyond the software improvements, Samsung has also refined the hardware. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 weighs 180g and measures 6.1mm thick when unfolded. This makes it 3.1% lighter and 13.1% thinner than the Flip 6 – not last year’s Flip 7. Furthermore, Samsung says it has also strengthened the device with upgraded Armor Aluminum construction and a redesigned hinge for improved durability.
Photography is handled by a 50MP main camera paired with a 12MP ultra-wide. Familiar features such as FlexCam, ProVisual Engine and Super Steady with Horizontal Lock return for steadier handheld video.
Battery life also gets a welcome boost. The Flip 8 packs a 4,300mAh battery, which Samsung claims is capable of delivering up to 31 hours of video playback on a single charge.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 starts at £1,149 with 256GB of storage, while a 512GB version will also be available. Colour options include Graphite, Cream and Pink, alongside online-exclusive finishes such as Mint. It’s available to pre-order now ahead of release on 7 August.
