Samsung may have only just launched the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, but attention is already turning to what could come next – and a fresh leak suggests next year’s Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra could receive its biggest camera upgrade yet.
According to a post from Korean tech community meeco.kr, the Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra is tipped to feature almost the same rear camera setup as the rumoured Galaxy S27 Ultra. If accurate, it would mark the first time Samsung’s premium foldable has matched its traditional flagship in camera hardware.
The biggest reported change is a new 200MP ISOCELL HP6 main camera. This replaces the current HP2 sensor found in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The leak also claims Samsung will upgrade the telephoto camera from a 10MP 3x zoom to a 50MP 5x periscope lens based on Sony’s IMX854 sensor.
That would be a significant step forward for zoom photography. Not only would users gain longer optical reach, but the higher-resolution sensor could also enable cleaner cropped images at intermediate zoom levels.

The reported setup closely mirrors previous rumours surrounding the Galaxy S27 Ultra. This model is also expected to adopt a 200MP HP6 sensor while replacing its dedicated 3x telephoto camera with a higher-resolution 5x periscope lens capable of delivering 10x zoom through sensor cropping. If Samsung brings the same hardware to its foldable flagship, it would finally narrow one of the biggest gaps between the two Ultra line-ups.
The leak also suggests the standard Galaxy Z Fold 9 will remain a step behind. The current Fold 8 uses a 50MP GNG main sensor. The source claims Samsung is unlikely to upgrade the base model to the 200MP sensor next year, leaving the Ultra model with a much clearer advantage for photography.
As with any early leak, it’s worth treating these claims with caution. Samsung hasn’t confirmed any details about the Galaxy Z Fold 9 range, and the devices are still likely more than a year away.
