SURI has launched the Core 1.0, a new electric toothbrush that brings the brand’s minimalist design and plant-based brush heads to a lower price point.
At £65, it undercuts SURI’s more premium Pro 2.0. It still offers features including a pressure sensor, four-week battery life and a two-minute brushing timer.
The Core 1.0 is clearly designed to stand apart from the bulky electric toothbrushes that tend to dominate the bathroom counter. Its lightweight handle uses more than 90% bio-circular material. It comes in four colours: Haze, Ember, Nightfall and Moonrise. There’s also a magnetic mirror mount, helping keep the toothbrush off the counter when space is at a premium.
It’s not just about looks, either. SURI says the Core 1.0 has been clinically tested to remove 100% more plaque than a manual toothbrush. Meanwhile, the built-in haptic pressure sensor is designed to help users avoid brushing too hard. A two-minute timer is also included to encourage a more consistent routine.
Battery life is another highlight, with up to four weeks of use from a single charge. The toothbrush uses quiet sonic cleaning at under 65dB, which should make it less intrusive in shared bathrooms. Charging is handled by a compact wireless induction pebble rather than a bulky dock.
SURI has also kept the Core 1.0 relatively travel-friendly. There’s a built-in button lock to prevent accidental activation in a bag. In addition, a plant-based head cover protects the brush head. The company’s plant-based heads can also be returned through its mail-back recycling scheme in the UK and US.
For anyone looking for a more capable electric toothbrush without spending heavily, the Core 1.0 looks like an interesting middle ground. It retains several of SURI’s design and sustainability touches. However, it strips back some of the extras found on the Pro 2.0, such as its aluminium body and UV-C cleaning travel case.
