Asus has confirmed the ROG Xbox Ally X20 goes on sale from 15 October and will be priced at £1299/$1299 for the console on its own.
Asus confirmed pre-order availability during Gamescom 2026, with the handheld available to pre-order right now ahead of the October date.
That £1299/$1299 starting price applies to the standalone ROG Xbox Ally X20 alone and sits well above most Windows-based gaming handhelds currently sold in the UK, a gap that reflects the premium branding built into this Xbox collaboration. But it also reflects the rising cost of components across the industry.
Alongside the standalone unit, Asus is offering a £2299/$2499 bundle that pairs the handheld with the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR glasses, a dbrand Killswitch case and a custom Pelican case for transport and storage.
The premium attached to the bundle reflects the added AR hardware, since gaming-specific AR glasses like the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 typically retail as standalone accessories costing several hundred pounds on their own.
That protective layer extends to the dbrand Killswitch case and the custom Pelican case, additions that suggest ASUS expects buyers to treat the ROG Xbox Ally X20 as a higher-value device warranting dedicated transport and physical protection.
The ROG Xbox Ally X20 continues the collaboration between Asus and Microsoft that began with the standard ROG Xbox Ally and extends official Xbox branding onto a Windows handheld design rather than a dedicated Xbox console.
There are numerous differences here between the X20 model and previous Xbox Allys. The headline upgrade is a 7.4-inch OLED with a 1080p resolution, 1400 nits of peak brightness in HDR (600 nits in SDR), Dolby Vision HDR, and a 120Hz refresh rate. There’s also a translucent black chassis with gold accents that fits neatly into the aesthetic language Asus is using across its 20th anniversary lineup.
Our computing reviewer Reece Bithrey, who spent some time with the X20 at Computex, said “The fact is that this is the handheld Asus and Microsoft should have brought to the table in the first place. The lack of an OLED screen was one of my small pain points with the original model, and to see Asus bring it to a special edition alongside TMR joysticks and its numerous other optimisations signals to me that Asus felt it could have done better in the first instance.”
Both the standalone ROG Xbox Ally X20 and the bundle option are available to pre-order now, with general retail sale confirmed for 15 October across ASUS’s usual retail channels.
