Google is giving Pokémon fans another reason to track their sleep, with a special edition Fitbit Air designed around the Pokémon Sleep app.
The new wearable comes in a “serene Sleepy Blue” colourway and features a sleeping Pikachu print, while otherwise keeping the same lightweight design as the standard Fitbit Air.
The Pokémon Sleep edition is available to pre-order from the Google Store and Target, with shipping starting on September 15. Google is also including three months of Google Health Premium, formerly known as Fitbit Premium, with the device.
The special edition doesn’t introduce any new hardware or tracking features, so the main appeal is its Pokémon-themed design. Like the standard Fitbit Air, it is designed to be light and unobtrusive enough for all-day wear, making it particularly suited to overnight tracking.
The Fitbit Air can sync sleep data with Pokémon Sleep through Google’s Health Connect platform on Android. Once you pair the wearable with the app, your sleep information transfers automatically, letting Pokémon Sleep use it as part of its usual sleep-tracking experience.
When you wake up, Pokémon with sleep types similar to yours will appear around Snorlax based on the data collected overnight. Your Sleep Score, which is calculated from the duration of your sleep, also contributes to Snorlax’s strength.
The Pokémon Sleep integration isn’t entirely exclusive to Fitbit Air, either. Google says existing smartwatches and wearables can already be connected to Pokémon Sleep through Health Connect on Android, while Apple users can link compatible devices through Apple Health.
What makes this version different is that it combines that functionality with a design aimed squarely at Pokémon fans. The Sleepy Blue finish and sleeping Pikachu graphic give it a more distinctive look than the standard model without changing how the wearable works.
The three-month Google Health Premium trial is another useful addition. It gives owners access to Google’s Gemini-powered health coach, adding some extra health and fitness features beyond the Pokémon Sleep integration.
For anyone who already uses Pokémon Sleep, the new Fitbit Air is therefore more of a themed version than a major upgrade. But if you want a wearable that feels like part of the Pokémon experience rather than simply another device feeding data into the app, this could be the more appealing option.
