Apple has confirmed that iOS 27 will officially arrive on September 14, but public beta users can get the update early. The latest release candidate is now available to test, giving users a chance to try the new features before the wider rollout begins.
The release candidate landed on September 9 following Apple’s latest event, and it is expected to be one of the final versions before the stable release. iOS 27 brings a number of changes to the iPhone, including a revamped Siri, more Liquid Glass customisation options, Apple Handoff, and deeper Apple Intelligence integration.
The biggest change is arguably Siri, which gets an AI-focused overhaul with new capabilities including Write with Siri. On top of that, Apple is also adding a redesigned Screen Time experience and lock screen changes, an Insights feature in Apple Wallet, and updates to RCS messaging between iPhone and Android users.
Some of the more advanced Siri and Apple Intelligence features will be limited to newer iPhones. Apple Intelligence support starts with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Meanwhile, the broader iOS 27 update supports models going back to the iPhone 11 and the second-generation iPhone SE.
If you want to try iOS 27 ahead of September 14, you can join Apple’s public beta programme. Once enrolled, open Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates on your iPhone and select iOS 27 Public Beta. The same process applies on iPad, where you can select the iPadOS 27 public beta instead.
Developer beta access is also available for registered Apple developers through the same software update menu.
As ever, installing a beta comes with some risk. Therefore, it is worth backing up your iPhone before making the switch. With the release candidate already available, though, public beta users are effectively getting an early look at the version Apple plans to release to everyone on September 14.
