Apple has quietly raised the price of several iPhones, with the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air now costing $/£100 more than they did just hours ago.
The price increase comes shortly after Apple’s latest “Surprise and shine” event, where the company unveiled the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro. While the event focused on its newest models, Apple has also adjusted pricing for several older iPhones that remain in its lineup.
The iPhone 17 now starts at £899 for 256GB of storage, up from £799. The iPhone Air has also increased from £999 to £1,099, while the iPhone 16 is back up to £799.
That makes the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air £100 more expensive than they were before the price change, despite neither phone receiving any new hardware or features.
In the US, Apple has similarly increased prices across its remaining older models. The iPhone 16 has risen from $699 to $799, while the iPhone 17E now costs $699 for 256GB rather than its original $599 launch price. The iPhone 17 has gone from $799 to $899, with the iPhone Air increasing from $999 to $1,099.
The timing is notable because Apple did not announce a standard iPhone 18 during its September event. Instead, the company focused on its higher-end iPhone 18 Pro models, which start at $1,199.
For UK buyers, that leaves fewer affordable options in Apple’s current range. The £899 iPhone 17 is now the cheapest way into the standard current-generation lineup, while the iPhone Air sits another £200 higher.
Apple has not indicated that the price changes are linked to any hardware changes, so these appear to be straightforward price adjustments rather than new versions of the phones.
If you were considering an iPhone 17 or iPhone Air at their previous prices, the timing makes the change particularly noticeable: both phones are now £100 more expensive than they were only a few hours earlier.
