GTA VI’s 65-fold pre-order traffic surge on G2A.COM is testing how marketplaces balance hype with security.
The surge arrived as the game approaches its final months before release, and marketplace data gathered by G2A.COM between January and July shows anticipation building in a pattern more commonly associated with a major film premiere than a typical software launch.
Two-thirds of players who took part in G2A’s companion survey named GTA VI among their three most anticipated games of the year, with 51 percent ranking it first overall and 53 percent describing themselves as extremely or very excited for release.
That enthusiasm is translating into real-world planning rather than staying online, with close to three in ten respondents already arranging time off work or school specifically to play GTA VI, and two in five saying they are likely to adjust plans with friends and family around the release.
Not every player intends to binge from day one, however, since more than half plan to start playing within 24 hours of launch and a third hope to begin within the first few minutes, while roughly four in ten expect to spend fewer than three hours with the game in its opening week.
Marketplace activity and engagement waves
That range of play styles points to a broader shift already visible in G2A.COM’s own marketplace data, where traffic to GTA VI offer pages jumped by more than 6,000 percent on 25 June compared with the average recorded before May, before settling at nearly 3,000 percent above that baseline over the following days.
Interest carried into July rather than fading once pre-orders opened, with the month alone accounting for almost half of all offer-page traffic recorded on G2A.COM between January and July and activity remaining roughly 1,100 percent above the pre-May baseline throughout.
Demand also spread well beyond a single spike in interest, with the game becoming G2A.COM’s most wishlisted offer in 45 countries such as the UK and the US, and placing in the top ten across 46 countries overall.
Katarzyna Jakubiec, chief business officer at G2A.COM, said as much herself: “GTA VI isn’t generating a single peak of attention; it’s creating a series of engagement waves.” She added that every new piece of information about the game fuels another wave of interest in the months leading up to release.
Payment trust and security on marketplaces
That level of sustained demand raises a practical question for anyone planning to buy a digital code rather than a physical copy, since checkout confidence depends on more than just finding the cheapest offer.
Independent research from Juniper Research, commissioned by G2A, found that 60 percent of respondents identified trusted digital wallets as the strongest signal of security online, ahead of factors such as two-factor authentication or a clearly stated privacy policy.
G2A.COM supports a mix of recognised global payment options alongside methods that are locally relevant in each market, an approach the same research links to stronger checkout confidence, and the study found marketplaces more trusted than direct purchases from a brand across all nine countries surveyed.
Half of respondents globally said e-commerce platforms carry the most responsibility for keeping transactions secure, an expectation G2A meets by working exclusively with verified business sellers who pass seller verification, know-your-business and anti-money-laundering checks before they can list on the marketplace.
Beyond seller checks, G2A layers in AI-supported fraud detection with a dedicated anti-fraud team, continuous monitoring of transactions, PCI DSS-compliant payment infrastructure and regular external security audits, the same combination of measures referenced in G2A’s public security documentation and in interviews with its own security leadership.
Rockstar Games has set 19 November 2026 as the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and that date now gives marketplaces and gamers alike a fixed point to plan around as pre-order activity continues to build.
