Ugreen has come up with a rather unusual way to give the iPhone 18 Pro a second screen.
The brand’s new Magic E-ink Screen Case adds a large e-ink display to the back of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, turning the case into a secondary canvas for displaying photos.
The Magic E-ink Screen Case has launched in China alongside Ugreen’s other accessories for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, including a 45W charger with AVS support and a screen protector. There’s no word yet on whether the Magic E-ink Screen Case will be released globally.
The e-ink panel covers a sizeable portion of the phone’s rear and is controlled through a companion app. From here, you can sync photos from your iPhone and display them on the back of the case.
That makes it considerably less ambitious than some other rear-screen phone accessories. For example, Ugreen’s case can’t turn the rear display into a viewfinder for selfies or play videos. It’s essentially a low-power photo display rather than a second interface for the iPhone.
Still, there’s a practical side to the rather strange-looking accessory. The case has raised edges around the camera bar and air-cushioned bumpers on all four corners, giving the iPhone some extra protection against bumps and drops. Ugreen is also offering it in burgundy and silver finishes designed to match the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
Rear displays are becoming a more familiar sight on smartphones, with Xiaomi using them as a headline feature on its Pro models and even budget devices such as the Acer Sospiro A15 getting in on the idea. Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro doesn’t have one built in, so Ugreen’s case is one way to add the feature without changing the phone itself.
Whether a photo-playing e-ink screen is enough to justify carrying around a slightly more elaborate case is another question. For now, at least, the Magic E-ink Screen Case is only confirmed for China, so iPhone owners elsewhere will have to wait to see if Ugreen brings this odd but interesting accessory to more markets.
