Meta’s Ray-Ban Display glasses are now available in the UK, giving British buyers a chance to try the company’s smart glasses with an actual display built into the frame. They start at £749, with online ordering and retail sales launching today in London.
The glasses are also expanding to Canada, France, Italy and Germany, following their US launch. In the UK, customers can buy them online or through selected retail locations, with Meta focusing on priority cities where shoppers can see the display and visual Meta AI in action before buying.
The display is at the heart of the experience. Meta says the glasses can show useful information without requiring you to pull out your phone, including turn-by-turn cycling directions and real-time public transport departures. Later this month, walking directions will also become more natural, with the glasses able to direct you using things around you – such as telling you to turn left at a yellow house rather than simply naming a street.
There are some other handy additions coming, too. Mirrored phone notifications can appear on the display, while the new calendar features let you see who is attending a meeting, accept or decline invitations and join meetings directly from the glasses. Threads Community Feeds will also let users follow curated feeds and repost posts.
Meta is putting more emphasis on the camera experience as well. The glasses can capture video with Dolby Atmos spatial audio, which Meta describes as a first for a consumer device, and photos can now be edited directly through the display rather than sending you back to your phone.
For video calls, a feature called Hologram is designed to make hands-free conversations a little less awkward. After a short self-capture in the Meta AI app, users can create a photorealistic digital version of their face that appears during calls. Hologram is due to begin Early Access on WhatsApp for US users later this autumn.
Meta is also preparing Explore, a new on-glasses app for discovering experiences built specifically for the glasses.
In the UK, the glasses are available from £749, while Canadian pricing starts at CA$1,149. France, Italy and Germany will get pre-orders first, starting at €899, with availability following on October 13.
