Nothing is expanding access to its Android 17 beta, with the Phone (4a), Phone (3a Pro) and Phone (3a) now able to join the Nothing OS 5.0 open beta ahead of the official release.
The rollout puts these three phones on the same beta track as the Nothing Phone (3), which was the first Nothing handset to receive the Android 17 package. The company is sticking to the release schedule it announced when the first open beta arrived, with more devices set to follow over the coming months.
Android 17 brings a handful of changes to Nothing phones, including updated system visuals and animations, new widgets and changes to the camera app. There’s also a dedicated Glyph app for controlling the phone’s lights and accessing related features.
For now, the Nothing Phone (3a) Lite is missing from the list, although Nothing expects to give it access later this year. Owners of the Phone (4a), Phone (3a Pro) and Phone (3a) should now be able to try Nothing OS 5.0 in its early beta form.
The timing is fairly straightforward. Nothing’s release schedule has the Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus next in line for beta access in October. The Phone (4a) and Phone (3a) series are then expected to receive the stable Android 17 update in early November, with the wider rollout continuing until sometime in January 2027.
That means owners of the newly supported phones don’t have to wait until the full release to see what’s changing. The open beta gives them an early look at Nothing’s take on Android 17, although it’s still an early build rather than the finished software.
At its core, the update brings Nothing’s supported phones onto the latest Android version, while keeping the company’s own visual changes and Glyph-focused features layered on top.
For now, Phone (4a), Phone (3a Pro) and Phone (3a) owners can get started with Nothing OS 5.0 open beta, while the Phone (3a) Lite and older Nothing models wait their turn.
