Peloton is making its treadmills a little easier to live with. The company has launched the Tread Flex, its first foldable treadmill and its least expensive model at $2,200, alongside two more powerful options and a bunch of new AI features for runners, walkers and hikers.
All three new treadmills, which are the Tread Flex, Tread Vision ($3,500) and Tread Plus Vision ($6,700), will go on sale October 1.
The Tread Flex is the interesting one if space is tight. Peloton says it can fold down to 50% of its floor footprint, making it better suited to smaller apartments and home workout rooms. It’s aimed more at walkers, hikers and people looking for lower-impact exercise than serious runners.
The Tread Vision steps things up with a 23.8-inch swivelling screen, Sonos-tuned speakers and a built-in camera that works with Peloton’s new Run Analysis feature. It’s designed for walkers, joggers, runners and strength training.
At the top of the range is the Tread Plus Vision, which is aimed at high-mileage training and elite athletes. It uses a slat-belt deck and ball-bearing system, while also getting the full set of new Peloton IQ features.
Those AI tools are arguably the bigger update across the range. Run Analysis looks at cadence, vertical oscillation and stride length to help runners work on efficiency, while IQ Pace Targets suggests speeds based on a user’s chosen targets. Heart Rate Zone Workouts can also use data from compatible smartwatches or fitness bands to personalise training targets.
There are a couple of more unusual additions, too. ReRuns can sync inclines from outdoor running routes through the Peloton app, while Sled Mode adds up to 300 pounds of resistance to the Tread for strength workouts.
Peloton IQ will also support Whoop biometric data, joining existing integrations with Apple Health, Fitbit and Garmin Connect.
