Boox’s smallest e-reader yet is now up for pre-order, and the Picco takes the company’s compact reading approach to a much smaller footprint. At $99.99, it packs a 3.97-inch ePaper touchscreen into a device that’s roughly the size of a credit card.
The BOOX Picco was first teased in July and officially revealed at IFA 2026 as the first device in the company’s new “Tiles” series. It’s smaller than the already compact Palma, making it particularly easy to slip into a pocket or bag.
The 3.97-inch ePaper display has a 480 x 800 resolution, which should make for a fairly sharp image at this size. Like Boox’s larger readers, it also has a front light with adjustable warmth, so you can make the screen more comfortable for nighttime reading.
There is one major trade-off for that tiny design: the Picco doesn’t run Android. Instead, it uses a custom interface with a small selection of built-in apps, including To-do, a countdown and a Pomodoro timer. You can customise the wallpaper, but Boox hasn’t said that you’ll be able to install additional apps.
It does still have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, while books can be transferred over USB-C or a microSD card. A 16GB microSD card is included, and storage can be expanded up to 2TB.
The Picco weighs just 58g and comes with a magnetic case that can attach to the back of compatible phones or other magnetic surfaces. Inside is a 920mAh battery, which Boox says should last anywhere from a few days to potentially weeks depending on use.
Pre-orders are now open through Boox for $99.99, with shipping expected to start around the end of October. Depending on order volumes, that means the first units should arrive by early November.
It’s a very different proposition from something like the Palma. Rather than squeezing a full Android experience into a tiny reader, the Picco keeps things deliberately simple: a small, low-distraction screen, basic tools and plenty of room for books.
