Google has just given us an early look at Android 18, although you will have to wait a little longer before the next major Android update gets its proper unveiling.
Android 18 has appeared on the agenda for Google’s upcoming Android Dev Summit 2026 along with a tease of “powerful new graphics features”. Google hasn’t revealed what those features will actually do, but it’s the first official hint from the company about what it has planned for the next version of Android.
The Android Dev Summit takes place on October 28 and 29, with an Android leadership keynote set to cover the latest Android features and updates. This makes it a likely place for Google to share more details about Android 18. However, the company hasn’t confirmed that the operating system will be formally announced during the event – that’ll likely happen next Spring.
The summit itself is primarily aimed at developers, with four main tracks covering AI experiences, Android XR, app foundations, and tools and performance. So while Android 18 is the obvious headline for anyone interested in phones, there should also be plenty of developer-focused sessions around the wider Android platform.
The event will take place at Google’s Bay View campus in Mountain View, California. In-person attendance is limited to selected professional Android developers. Developers can apply to attend, while everyone else will be able to watch the keynote live.
For now, the “powerful new graphics features” are the only Android 18 features Google has teased. Still, seeing Android 18 officially listed on the summit schedule is a useful sign. It suggests Google is ready to start talking about the next generation of its mobile operating system.
Android 18 isn’t being unveiled just yet then, but with the Android Dev Summit less than a month away, we shouldn’t have to wait too long before Google starts filling in the blanks.
