Apple has revealed details about its new HomeView smart display, giving a clearer idea of what the device can do beyond controlling a smart home.
According to Apple’s official specifications, the HomeView comes with 15 built-in apps, including FaceTime, Messages, Safari, Calendar, Reminders, and Apple Music. It also supports additional apps streamed or extended from a connected iPhone, making it more versatile than a traditional smart home control panel.
The built-in lineup covers everyday essentials. Alongside the Home app for managing compatible smart devices, users get Find My, Intercom, Podcasts, Weather, Alarms, Timers, World Clock, and Settings.
FaceTime is powered by a 12MP Center Stage camera that automatically pans and keeps users in frame during video calls. Combined with its four-microphone array and custom speakers, the display doubles as an interactive household hub.
One of the most significant features of the HomeView is its ability to recognize up to six different household members by their faces. When a user approaches, the display shifts from a shared household screen to that specific person’s personalized home screen, keeping private data like Messages and Calendar visible only to them when their unlocked iPhone is nearby.
Entertainment options include Audiobooks, Classical Music, News, and TV apps available from an iPhone, alongside supported third-party audio and video services. However, there is no dedicated App Store on the HomeView, meaning users cannot freely download or install iPhone or iPad apps directly onto the device.
Hardware-wise, both the tabletop and wall-mounted versions feature a 7-inch Liquid Retina touchscreen, Apple’s A18 chip, and the new Siri AI powered by Apple Intelligence. The display also supports Thread networking for smart home accessories.
Pre-orders are live now, with release set for 13 November.
