Apple reportedly working on HomeView Max with 9-inch rotating display

Apple is reportedly working on a more advanced version of its newly announced HomeView smart home hub, featuring a larger display and a robotic arm that can follow users around the room.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming model could feature a 9-inch screen mounted on a robotic arm capable of rotating 360 degrees. That’s a notable upgrade over the standard HomeView, which features a fixed 7-inch display and is currently available for pre-order at $299, with deliveries expected to begin on November 13.

The biggest difference could be how the device responds to people around it. Internally known as J595, the upgraded HomeView would reportedly use voice recognition to identify who’s speaking and automatically turn its screen towards them. This could make it particularly useful in kitchens or home offices, where users might want to follow instructions, check information or make video calls without constantly repositioning the display.

The robotic arm isn’t without its challenges, however. Apple has reportedly encountered difficulties developing the motor system, which could explain why Gurman expects the device to arrive in 2027 or 2028. Names including HomeView Max, HomeView Ultra and HomeView 360 have been suggested, although Apple hasn’t confirmed any of them.

The report also suggests Apple has bigger ambitions for its smart home lineup. The standard HomeView comes in tabletop and wall-mounted versions, but its software is more limited than an iPad. Users can’t install third-party apps directly, with the device instead relying on supported content from an iPhone. Apple TV is also currently its only mainstream video service.

While the first HomeView has yet to prove itself with consumers, the possibility of a more premium model suggests Apple is already looking beyond a conventional smart display. For now, though, the larger robotic version remains unannounced, with its final design, price and launch date still uncertain.
