Samsung’s rumoured Galaxy S27 Pro could offer flagship performance in a smaller package, but a new leak suggests it won’t be getting Qualcomm’s most powerful processor. Instead, the company may reserve the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 exclusively for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, leaving the Pro model with a slightly less powerful chip.
According to import-export records spotted by Notebookcheck, Samsung is planning to use three different processors across its upcoming Galaxy S27 lineup. The standard Galaxy S27 and S27+ are expected to run on Samsung’s own Exynos 2700, while the new S27 Pro could feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. The more powerful Extreme variant, meanwhile, appears to be reserved for the Ultra.
The leaked records also reveal a few other details about the upcoming phones. All four models are reportedly getting 12GB of RAM and 256GB of starting storage, although their screen sizes will differ. The standard S27 is expected to feature a 6.3-inch display, followed by a 6.5-inch OLED panel on the Pro, a 6.7-inch screen on the Plus and a larger 6.9-inch display on the Ultra.
While the chipset difference might sound disappointing, the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 should still offer plenty of power. Both versions are built on TSMC’s 2nm process and feature the same eight-core Oryon CPU, with the biggest differences coming down to graphics performance and AI capabilities.
The Extreme chip features an Adreno 850 GPU, complete with AI Matrix Cores and 18MB of high-performance memory, promising a 44% graphics boost over the previous generation. The standard version uses an Adreno 845 GPU without those extras, although Qualcomm still claims a respectable 35% improvement.
AI performance also differs, with the Extreme offering a 33% improvement in performance per watt, compared with 20% on the standard chip. It also supports 8K video recording at 60fps and 4K slow-motion at 240fps, doubling the respective limits of the regular version, alongside support for the APV video codec.
Despite those differences, most users may not notice a major performance gap in everyday use, even when running demanding apps or games. For now, though, the Galaxy S27 Pro remains unannounced, and Samsung has yet to confirm whether the leaked specifications will make it into the final device.
