Apple’s next round of iPad updates reportedly won’t arrive until early 2027, with the company preparing refreshes for its entry-level iPad, iPad Air and iPad Pro following the recent launch of the OLED iPad mini.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to update the remaining models in its tablet lineup during the first half of next year. The news follows the iPad mini’s OLED upgrade in October, which appears to have been Apple’s final iPad release of 2026.
While the upcoming models aren’t expected to receive equally significant changes across the board, there could be some worthwhile improvements, particularly for the iPad Pro.
The biggest rumoured upgrade is the M6 chip for the iPad Pro, which is expected to deliver another performance boost over the current generation. Apple is also reportedly planning to introduce vapour chamber cooling, a feature designed to manage heat more effectively during demanding tasks.
This could help reduce thermal throttling when gaming or running intensive AI applications, allowing the tablet to maintain its performance for longer periods.
Meanwhile, the entry-level iPad is expected to receive its next refresh in the first quarter of 2027, although specific hardware changes haven’t been detailed. The iPad Air is also reportedly on track for a spring release, with both models likely to receive more modest updates compared with the Pro.
The latest report largely lines up with earlier predictions from Bloomberg. Back in June, the publication suggested Apple was preparing four new iPad Pro configurations for spring 2027, while a subsequent report in July pointed to an October OLED iPad mini launch, followed by updates to the rest of the lineup next year.
Nothing has been officially confirmed by Apple, and launch plans could still change. However, with the OLED iPad mini now available and the remaining updates reportedly scheduled for the first half of 2027, anyone considering a new iPad may want to see what Apple has planned before upgrading.
