GoPro teases an entirely new line of cameras ahead of April reveal

GoPro has confirmed it’s about to unveil a new generation of cameras at NAB 2026. It sounds like this isn’t just another action cam refresh.

Instead, the company is hinting at a broader lineup that could push well beyond its usual rugged roots.

The reveal is set for April 19–22 in Las Vegas, where GoPro says it will debut multiple GP3-powered cameras. That wording alone is telling; this looks like a portfolio shift, not a single headline product.

At the centre of it all is the new GP3 processor, which GoPro is positioning as its biggest leap in years. Built on a 5nm architecture, it offers more than double the pixel-processing power of the previous GP2 chip. There is also a dedicated AI neural unit for real-time scene recognition and subject tracking. In short, it’s designed to handle far more advanced imaging than GoPro’s typical output.

That lines up with the teaser clips the company has been sharing. Instead of the usual ultra-wide, high-action footage, these show shallow depth of field, detailed macro shots and controlled low-light scenes, the kind of look you’d expect from larger sensors and more traditional cameras.

GoPro’s CEO, Nicholas Woodman, has been fairly direct about the goal here: better low-light performance, higher resolutions and frame rates, improved audio, longer battery life and more reliability in demanding conditions. But reading between the lines, it also suggests a move toward more creator-focused hardware, potentially including vlogging or even cinema-leaning devices.

The GP3 chip is key to that shift. GoPro has already said it’s built to power a wider range of products. This upcoming launch will be the first real proof of that strategy in action.

There are still plenty of unknowns, including product names, pricing and exact form factors, but the direction feels clear. GoPro isn’t just upgrading its action cameras this time, it’s expanding what a GoPro camera can be.

We’ll get the full picture when the company takes the stage at NAB in April.
