iOS 27 could bring a new Siri app with extensions

Apple could be preparing one of its biggest Siri shake-ups in years.

According to a new report from Mark GurmaniOS 27 may introduce a dedicated Siri app. It may come complete with a new “Extensions” system that opens the assistant up to third-party AI tools.

So, instead of Siri living quietly in the background, the new app would let users interact with it more like modern AI chatbots, supporting both text and voice conversations. Plus, it will keep a history of past interactions, which should put it closer to apps like ChatGPTGoogle Gemini and Claude.

The bigger shift, however, is the rumoured Extensions feature which would allow third-party AI services to plug directly into Siri. It builds on Apple’s existing integration with ChatGPT introduced in iOS 18.2. Early details suggest Apple could even launch a dedicated section in the App Store for these extensions. Therefore, Siri could become a hub for multiple AI assistants rather than a single, closed system.

There are hints of a broader redesign, too. Gurman reports that Siri could get a refreshed interface, possibly tied into the Dynamic Island. This could appear alongside new system-wide shortcuts like an “Ask Siri” button within apps and a “Write with Siri” option above the keyboard.

Apple is yet to confirm anything, and there are still questions that remain up in the air like whether the full experience will be limited to newer devices that support Apple Intelligence. But the direction is clear: Apple is exploring ways to make Siri more flexible, more visible, and far more capable than it is today.

If accurate, the changes should arrive first in developer beta form around June. After that, a wider rollout is expected alongside iOS 27 later in the year.
