Apple’s next big iPhone update could double down on AI in a much more practical way.
A new report suggests iOS 27 will expand Apple Intelligence into everyday apps like Safari, Wallet and Contacts.
None of this is official just yet. The details come from backend code discoveries. However, it offers an early look at how Apple might evolve its still-maturing AI push. iOS 27 is expected to be announced at WWDC in June 2026, and then arrive on the best iPhones towards the end of the year, likely around the launch of the rumoured iPhone Fold.
A big part of that seems to revolve around Visual Intelligence, Apple’s camera-based feature that recognises real-world objects. The report claims it could soon scan food nutrition labels and feed that data straight into the Health app. This could potentially cut out the need for manual logging. There’s also talk of it recognising phone numbers and addresses, then automatically saving them into Contacts. Although it is a small tweak, it could save time day-to-day.
Elsewhere, Apple appears to be targeting apps people already use constantly. In Wallet, iOS 27 could let users turn physical tickets and cards into digital passes on the fly. This would remove the need for third-party apps or pre-supported formats.
Safari might also get a subtle but useful upgrade. According to the report, the browser could automatically name tab groups based on what’s inside them. As a result, it would be easier to organise cluttered browsing sessions without manually labelling everything.
Taken together, these features point to a more grounded approach to Apple Intelligence. Rather than big headline-grabbing tools, Apple seems to be focusing on small, helpful automations built into core apps. This is arguably something it needs as it continues to play catch-up with Google’s more aggressive AI rollout on Android.
Of course, there’s still a lot we don’t know. Apple hasn’t confirmed any of these features, and code leaks don’t always translate into finished products. We’ll likely get the full picture at WWDC in June. A public release is expected later in the year alongside the next iPhone lineup.
If this report is accurate, though, iOS 27 could make Apple Intelligence feel a lot more like part of the everyday iPhone experience.
