Sky is making a bigger push into the connected home space with the launch of Sky Smart Home. It is a bundled system that combines video doorbells, cameras and a subscription plan into one app-driven setup.
At its core, this is Sky’s attempt to simplify smart home security, and undercut rivals on price. The company says its packages start from £5 a month. Sky claims savings of over £100 compared to competitors like Ring. It bundles together hardware, cloud storage and app features in one place.
The entry-level option includes a Smart Doorbell and Chime, with a £15 upfront cost and a £5 monthly subscription. That gets you a 1080p HD camera with night vision. You also get live streaming, two-way talk, motion alerts and 30-day cloud recording. All managed through the new Sky Smart Home app.
Step up to the Smart Home Bundle, and Sky adds an indoor camera alongside extra features like auto-arm modes and scheduling, for £20 upfront and £8 per month. Both tiers also support expandable devices like motion sensors, contact sensors and leak detectors. This hints at a broader ecosystem play.
That ecosystem angle is really the point here. While Sky has offered smart home tech before through its Protect insurance product, this is the first time it’s being sold as a standalone service. This opens it up to a much wider audience.
Everything runs through a single app, where users can monitor live feeds, tweak settings, and receive alerts. Sky is leaning heavily on simplicity. It offers guided setup and built-in tech support designed to make installation less intimidating than traditional DIY systems.
There are some familiar trade-offs. Like most rivals, key features such as video history sit behind a subscription. While the pricing is aggressive, it still locks you into a monthly plan.
Sky Smart Home is available now via Sky’s website, retail stores and the My Sky app. Selected Sky Broadband customers can also get 30% off their plan. This adds another incentive for existing users to stay within the company’s ecosystem.
