GoPro has finally put a price on its new Mission cameras, and they’re not exactly aimed at casual users.
The Mission 1 will cost $599.99/£529.99 while the Mission 1 Pro comes in at $699.99/£599.99. Both models get a $100 discount if you’re subscribed to GoPro’s ecosystem.
Pre-orders are open now, with shipping set for May 28. Early buyers will also get a free Point-and-Shoot Grip accessory while supplies last.
There is also a third variant, the Mission 1 Pro ILS, which supports interchangeable Micro Four Thirds lenses. It is expected later in Q3 at the same $699.99/£599.99 price point or $599.99 for subscribers.
The pricing reflects what GoPro is trying to do here. These aren’t typical action cams. Both models are built around a 50MP 1-inch sensor and powered by the new GP3 processor. GoPro is pitching them as a “cinematic camera system” rather than something you’d strap to a helmet for a quick weekend ride.
That shift also explains the growing ecosystem around them. Accessories include a Wireless Mic System ($159.99), a Media Mod ($149.99) with expanded audio and connectivity options. In addition, there is a new Enduro 2 battery ($34.99).
Still, that positioning leaves the Mission range in a slightly awkward spot. For professional creators, the compact size and high-end specs could make sense as a lightweight filmmaking tool. But for most people, the ones filming holidays, hikes or the occasional snowboard run, this is likely overkill.
There are cheaper alternatives that cover the basics just fine. Older GoPro models like the Hero 12 and Hero 13 are already heavily discounted. Meanwhile, rivals like DJI and Insta360 offer capable action cams at lower prices.
In other words, GoPro’s Mission cameras look powerful, but they’re clearly not for everyone. And the price makes that pretty obvious.
