Govee has finally taken the wraps off its first solar-powered smart lighting, and it’s been a long time coming.
The Outdoor Solar String Lights, which first popped up quietly on “coming soon” pages earlier this year, are now official. This launch brings solar convenience and Govee’s colour tech into the garden.
The headline here is simple: these are designed to be set-and-forget outdoor lights that don’t need mains power but still feel like proper smart lighting. Govee says its new LuminBlend technology is doing the heavy lifting. This tech combines custom chips, LEDs and software to deliver smoother colour transitions and more natural-looking lighting than typical string lights.
That’s backed up by RGBICW support, which means that the lights can switch between vibrant multi-colour effects and a softer white mode. The brightness not only tops out at 50 lumens, but Govee also claims the lights can see up to 281 trillion colour combinations. That might sound a touch excessive, but it certainly makes the Solar String Lights one of the more versatile options available.

Furthermore, power comes from a 6W solar panel, which Govee says charges around 50% faster than standard 4W alternatives. On a full charge, you’re looking at up to 13 hours of light. This should comfortably cover an evening outdoors without needing a top-up. Durability shouldn’t be an issue either, with an IP67 rating and a build designed to handle year-round weather.
Govee CEO Eric Wu says the aim is to push solar lighting beyond the basics. The company wants to add smarter controls and more expressive colour to a category that’s often pretty limited.
Right now, the Outdoor Solar String Lights are available in the US for $99.99 via Govee’s store and Amazon. There’s no confirmed UK or EU release yet. However, with listings already live on regional pages, a wider rollout doesn’t look far off.
