Claude is getting a new trick aimed squarely at a growing problem: AI-powered scams.
Through a new integration with Malwarebytes, the chatbot can now check links, phone numbers and email addresses for potential threats. You do not need to leave the chat to check.
It’s a timely addition, as generative AI tools become more convincing, scams are getting harder to spot. Moreover, Malwarebytes says 66% of people now struggle to tell scams from legitimate messages. Increasingly polished phishing attempts are catching out even tech-savvy users.
In addition, the new feature plugs Malwarebytes’ threat intelligence directly into Claude. Once enabled, users can simply paste something suspicious. It could be a URL, an unknown number or an email sender, then ask Claude to analyse it. The system then returns one of four clear verdicts, such as safe, malicious, suspicious or unknown. It also gives guidance on what to do next.
Furthermore, it is not limited to basic checks either. Claude can also perform WHOIS lookups, pulling domain registration details to help determine whether a website is legitimate or recently created. This is a common red flag for scams.
Setup is straightforward as well. The Malwarebytes tool is available as a connector within Claude. For setup, head to Customise, open Connectors, search for Malwarebytes and tap connect. There’s no need to create a separate Malwarebytes account. This lowers the barrier for casual users who just want a quick safety check.
The move reflects a broader shift in how people use AI tools. As more users turn to chatbots like Claude for everyday decisions, from travel tips to online purchases, it makes sense for those same tools to double as a first line of defence against scams.
It’s not a complete solution to online fraud, but as scams get smarter, having a built-in sense check like this could help users avoid costly mistakes.
