Spotify now lets you see the first song you ever streamed

Spotify is leaning hard into nostalgia for its 20th anniversary celebrations. Its latest feature might be the most dangerously time-wasting one yet.

The streaming platform has launched a new in-app experience called “Spotify 20: Your Party of the Year(s)”. It gives users a look back at their entire listening history, including the very first song they ever streamed.

Available exclusively on mobile, the feature pulls together years of listening data into a shareable recap experience. It feels a bit like Spotify Wrapped, just stretched across your whole account history instead of a single year.

Alongside your first-ever streamed track, Spotify also reveals the first day you joined the platform and the total number of unique songs you’ve listened to. Moreover, you’ll see your all-time most-streamed artist as well. For long-time subscribers, that probably means uncovering some slightly questionable music choices from the early 2010s.

Spotify is also generating an All-Time Top Songs playlist, pulling together your 120 most-played tracks, complete with visible play counts. Unlike Wrapped playlists, this one focuses entirely on your listening habits across the life of your account rather than what you happened to obsess over in the past year.

The experience comes with built-in share cards as well, making it easy to throw your music history onto Instagram Stories or send it directly to friends. Spotify clearly knows people are going to do this the second they rediscover their old emo phase.

To access it, users can search for “Spotify 20” or “Party of the Year(s)” directly inside the Spotify app. Otherwise, you can head to Spotify’s dedicated anniversary page on mobile. The feature is rolling out across 144 markets and supports 16 languages.

Spotify says the launch is part of its broader 20th anniversary celebration. This also includes editorial playlists highlighting major musical moments, genres and cultural shifts from the past two decades.

It’s another example of streaming services turning personal data into entertainment. However, unlike some yearly recaps, this one feels a little more personal. Seeing your first streamed song is either going to hit you with pure nostalgia or make you immediately question your younger self.
