LG is pushing gaming monitor refresh rates into genuinely ridiculous territory.
The company has confirmed that its new UltraGear 25G590B will launch later this year. It will become the first 1080p gaming monitor capable of hitting a native 1000Hz refresh rate.
Up until now, manufacturers have generally limited the few monitors flirting with 1000Hz to 720p resolutions. This limitation made them feel more like esports experiments than something people would actually want on a desk. LG’s new panel changes that by pairing the ultra-fast refresh rate with a full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution on a 24.5-inch IPS display.

That combination clearly targets competitive players first and foremost. LG is pitching the monitor squarely at esports gamers who want the absolute fastest response possible. This includes those who play twitchy FPS games or, amusingly, “Excel” according to the company’s own announcement.
The bigger question, of course, is whether anyone can actually tell the difference anymore. A few years ago, gamers were already debating whether jumping from 240Hz to 360Hz was noticeable in real-world play. Now we’re somehow talking about 1000Hz panels like it’s the natural next step.
Still, for professional esports players where milliseconds matter, there probably is an audience for this kind of hardware arms race.
Beyond the eye-watering refresh rate, the UltraGear 25G590B keeps things relatively understated. LG says the monitor uses a minimalist stand design, includes integrated headset storage, and adds customizable lighting around the chassis.
There’s also a growing layer of AI features baked in. LG says AI Scene Optimization can automatically tweak image settings depending on the type of game being played. Meanwhile, AI Sound aims to improve spatial audio and voice clarity when using compatible headsets.
Thankfully, LG hasn’t gone overboard trying to market the AI side as the main attraction here. The real headline is still that absurd refresh rate.
Pricing has not been confirmed yet. LG says the UltraGear 25G590B will launch sometime during the second half of 2026. Given how niche 1000Hz gaming still is, don’t expect this one to come cheap.
