YouTube Music users are running into a seriously annoying bug that can randomly stop playback after just a single song.
According to reports across Reddit and YouTube’s own support forums, the issue prevents the app from automatically moving onto the next track once a song finishes. Even worse, manually hitting the skip button often does nothing at all. This essentially leaves playback frozen unless users intervene.
For a music streaming app, that is about as frustrating as bugs get.
The glitch appears to have surfaced within the past week and seems to be affecting both free and Premium YouTube Music users. Most complaints are coming from iPhone owners, but Android users have reportedly been hit too. Some users also say the issue carries over to CarPlay, making it even more irritating during long drives or commutes.

Oddly enough, the bug doesn’t seem completely widespread just yet. Some users can’t replicate it at all, while others say it happens constantly after every track.
There’s no official fix from Google at the moment, but users have already started piecing together temporary workarounds. The simplest solution appears to be restarting the device entirely, though that hasn’t worked for everyone.
One Reddit user also shared a slightly bizarre workaround that several others claim fixes the issue on iOS. It involves enabling the “Stream via Wi-Fi only” option inside YouTube Music settings, force-closing the app, briefly disabling Wi-Fi, and then reopening the app after reconnecting.
It’s not exactly elegant, but apparently it works.
The whole thing arrives at a slightly awkward time for YouTube Music too. Google has spent the past couple of years steadily improving the platform with smarter playlists, AI-powered radio stations, podcast support, and tighter YouTube integration. For many users, especially those already paying for YouTube Premium, it has quietly become one of the best-value music streaming services around.
That’s why bugs like this stand out so much. A music app failing to simply play the next song feels surprisingly disruptive once you realise how automatic that experience normally is.
For now, if restarting your device doesn’t help, your best option may just be waiting for Google to roll out a proper fix.
