Samsung sets Galaxy Unpacked for July 22 as next-gen foldables take centre stage

Samsung has officially confirmed when it will unveil its next wave of Galaxy devices.

The company’s next Galaxy Unpacked event is set for July 22 in London, with its latest foldable phones expected to headline the show.

In a press release announcing the event, Samsung also shared a teaser carrying the slogan “A New Shape Unfolds.” While the company stopped short of naming any products, the message strongly hints that the long-rumoured wider foldable will finally make its debut. This unofficially dubbed ‘Galaxy Z Wide Fold’ is widely expected to arrive as the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is unlikely to take the stage alone, either. Samsung is also expected to introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8, with the Ultra model sharing the same design as last year’s Z Fold 7.

Although Samsung hasn’t revealed any specifications ahead of the event, rumours suggest the wider Fold 8 could address one of the biggest criticisms of previous Galaxy Fold models by offering a broader cover display that’s closer to a conventional smartphone. If that’s the case, it could make the device much easier to use, both folded and unfolded.

The event should also bring updates beyond smartphones. Samsung is widely expected to announce the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 alongside the Galaxy Watch 9, giving its smartwatch lineup its annual refresh. Another product tipped for the event is the Galaxy Able. However, Samsung has yet to confirm exactly what that device will be.

As with previous Galaxy Unpacked events, Samsung will livestream the keynote globally. The presentation begins at 2pm BST, 9am EDT and 3pm CEST. You can watch it through the company’s official website and YouTube channel.

Samsung has also opened pre-reservations for its upcoming Galaxy devices ahead of the announcement. While the company hasn’t revealed launch offers just yet, registering early typically gives buyers access to exclusive promotions or bonus credit once the new hardware goes on sale.

With a new generation of foldables almost certain to headline proceedings, this summer’s Galaxy Unpacked is shaping up to be one of Samsung’s biggest hardware events of the year. If the rumours prove accurate, the wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 could get one of the most significant changes since the foldable series first launched back in 2019.
