Apple’s first foldable iPhone could end up with a slightly smaller battery than earlier rumours suggested – but may still outlast the standard iPhone 18 Pro.
A new leak from Digital Chat Station claims the long-rumoured iPhone Fold will pack a total battery capacity of 4,883mAh. This falls just short of the 5,000mAh figure that has been widely tipped over the past few months.
According to the leaker, the figure comes from regulatory filings submitted by one of Apple’s battery suppliers. The filings reportedly reveal that the foldable iPhone will use a dual-cell battery design that consists of one 1,921mAh battery and a second 2,962mAh cell.
While that’s lower than some earlier predictions, it would still represent a healthy battery upgrade over the rumoured iPhone 18 Pro. The new model is expected to feature a 4,288mAh battery. If both rumours prove accurate, the iPhone Fold would offer around 14% more capacity despite Apple’s efforts to keep the device exceptionally thin.
A dual-battery setup has long been expected for Apple’s foldable. Splitting the battery between each half of the chassis makes far more sense than trying to squeeze a single large cell into a folding design. Additionally, previous rumours have suggested Apple has been exploring stacked battery technology to maximise capacity without adding thickness.
Interestingly, the latest report also claims suppliers are still expecting the final battery capacity to land somewhere between 4,800mAh and 5,000mAh. That uncertainty is slightly surprising if component suppliers have already begun filing regulatory paperwork.
As with any early Apple leak, it’s worth taking the figures with a degree of caution. That said, Digital Chat Station has built a fairly solid track record with unreleased Apple hardware, and the claimed capacity broadly aligns with previous reports.
If the latest rumour is accurate, the iPhone Fold may not have the biggest battery Apple has ever shipped, but it could still offer enough capacity to comfortably deliver all-day battery life.
