Google Chrome’s Gemini AI features are now rolling out in the UK

Google is expanding Gemini’s reach in Chrome, with a suite of AI-powered features now rolling out to desktop users in the UK.

The update adds a new Ask Gemini button directly to the browser, appearing as a sparkle icon in the top-right corner of Chrome on Mac and PC. Once available, it allows users to ask Gemini questions about the content they’re viewing, get it to summarise webpages and even work across multiple tabs simultaneously.

One of the more useful additions is Gemini’s ability to pull information from several open tabs at once. That means you can compare products or research topics across multiple websites, condensing large amounts of information into a single summary without manually switching between pages.

Google is also tying Gemini more closely into its wider ecosystem. From within Chrome, users can interact with services including Gmail, Google Calendar, YouTube and Google Maps. In practice, that could mean asking Gemini to draft an email, schedule a meeting or jump to a specific point in a YouTube video, all without leaving the page you’re currently viewing.

The rollout also introduces Nano Banana, a new image-generation tool that lives inside Chrome’s sidebar. Users can create images from text prompts directly within the browser.

While Google is initially rolling out the update to desktop users in the UK, the company has confirmed that Gemini’s Chrome integration will also arrive on iOS next month. This will bring similar AI-powered functionality to iPhone users.

The move marks another step in Google’s push to embed Gemini throughout its products. Chrome integration first launched as an exclusive feature for AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers. Then it expanded to all desktop users in the US last year. Since then, Google has gradually broadened availability to dozens of additional markets.

Not everyone will welcome another AI button in their browser, however. Fortunately, Google has made it easy to remove. Users who don’t plan to use Gemini can simply right-click the Ask Gemini icon and select Unpin to hide it from Chrome’s toolbar.

For those already invested in Google’s ecosystem, though, the latest rollout could make Chrome feel a little more like a built-in productivity assistant rather than just a web browser.
