Apple’s long-rumoured OLED MacBook Pro is expected to rely on a single display supplier when it finally arrives, with a new report claiming Samsung Display has secured exclusive production of the panels for the upcoming laptops.
According to TheElec, Samsung Display will be the sole supplier of OLED panels for Apple’s next-generation 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models widely expected to debut in late 2026 or early 2027.
If accurate, the move would mark a rare departure from Apple’s usual strategy. Normally, Apple splits component orders between multiple manufacturers, helping reduce risk and improve supply flexibility.
The report claims Samsung Display is preparing to manufacture around 2.5 million OLED panels for Apple, which should be enough to cover the initial production run. The displays are also expected to support touch input, aligning with previous reports that Apple is finally preparing to bring touchscreen functionality to the MacBook Pro lineup.
Samsung’s reported exclusivity appears to stem from its involvement in the display’s development from an early stage. Rather than simply competing for manufacturing orders, the company is said to have worked with Apple on the panel specifications and production process, giving Samsung an advantage over rival suppliers.
LG Display was reportedly considered during development, with Apple evaluating different manufacturing approaches for large OLED panels. Samsung proposed using its newer 8.6-generation production line, while LG suggested its sixth-generation facilities. According to the report, Samsung’s approach offered better manufacturing efficiency and productivity, making it the preferred choice for a production run of around 2.5 million units.
That doesn’t mean LG is completely out of the picture. The company is expected to remain a supplier of LCD panels for existing MacBook Pro models and OLED displays for the iPad Pro. However, the report suggests LG won’t join the OLED MacBook Pro supply chain until 2029 at the earliest.
The supplier news adds to growing expectations that Apple is preparing one of the biggest MacBook Pro upgrades in years. Alongside OLED technology, recent reports have pointed to a redesigned chassis, touchscreen support, and next-generation Apple silicon arriving with the refreshed lineup.
If those reports prove accurate, Samsung’s exclusive deal could give the display maker a significant role in one of Apple’s most anticipated MacBook launches in recent years.
