Google is cutting the length of one of the biggest software perks bundled with its Pro Pixel phones, meaning Pixel 11 Pro buyers could face a monthly subscription charge sooner than expected.
With the Pixel 9 Pro in 2024, Google included 12 months of its Google AI Pro plan. The same year-long offer carried over to the Pixel 10 Pro series in 2025, giving Pro buyers a full year of access before they had to think about paying.
That subscription included Gemini Advanced, Gemini features in apps such as Gmail, Meet and Docs, and 2TB of Google cloud storage. While the AI tools were a headline feature, the storage allowance was arguably the more practical benefit for many users.
The offer was not identical across the Pixel range. Non-Pro Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 models received six months of Google One Premium instead, without Gemini Advanced. In some markets, including Japan, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro also came with shorter six-month offers.
For the Pixel 11 Pro series, however, Google is reportedly cutting the Pro offer in half. Buyers of any Pixel 11 Pro model will receive six months of Google AI Pro rather than 12 months.
The package itself is changing too. The Pixel 11 Pro offer is said to include higher Gemini usage, access to the latest models, 5TB of cloud storage and Google Health Premium.
That makes the new plan more generous in some areas, particularly storage. Pixel 11 Pro owners will get 5TB rather than the previous 2TB, which could be useful for anyone already relying heavily on Google’s cloud services.
But the shorter trial period is the catch. Once the six-month offer expires, users who want to keep Google AI Pro will reportedly need to pay $20 per month. That could be a noticeable change for anyone upgrading from a Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 10 Pro, where the 12-month benefit helped delay that cost.
The storage element may be the biggest issue. Anyone who fills a large amount of the included 5TB allowance during the trial will either need to keep paying for Google AI Pro or cut their storage usage once the free period ends.
Google AI Plus is mentioned as a cheaper alternative at $5 per month, but that plan includes 400GB of storage. That leaves a sizeable gap between the lower-cost option and the 5TB included with Google AI Pro.
Pixel Watch 5 and Fitbit Air owners should also pay attention to the Google Health Premium benefit. According to the supplied information, that subscription costs $10 per month separately after the included period ends.
So, while the Pixel 11 Pro offer may include more storage and extra health-related benefits, it also gives buyers less time before a subscription decision kicks in. If you do not want another monthly bill, it is worth checking the expiry date in your Google account and deciding what to do before the trial ends.
