Google has quietly increased the price of its TV Streamer 4K in the US, turning what was previously a $100 streaming box into a $150 device. That’s a 50% price increase, and it makes the Google TV Streamer a much harder recommendation.
The Google TV Streamer launched in 2024 for $100, replacing the Chromecast line with a more capable streaming box. Google has now raised its price by $50, with the new $150 MSRP appearing on the Google Store and Best Buy.
The increase comes alongside price rises for several Nest products, with Google pointing to higher component costs as the reason. The company confirmed that the new pricing for the Google TV Streamer 4K, Nest cameras and doorbells took effect on August 31.
“Due to rising component costs, we are adjusting the U.S. pricing of select Google Nest cameras, doorbells and Google TV streamer 4K,” Google told 9to5Google.
Google isn’t the only company dealing with higher component costs. Soaring DRAM and NAND prices have already pushed manufacturers to increase prices across consumer electronics, with Google also raising prices on its latest Pixel devices.
The good news is that you can still find the Google TV Streamer for its original $100 price at Amazon, although there’s no guarantee that price will stick around.
At $150, though, the Google TV Streamer loses much of what made it appealing in the first place. It still offers Google TV and more capable hardware than the older Chromecast devices, but a 50% price increase puts it in a much less comfortable position.
If you want a Google TV streaming box without spending that much, the Walmart Onn 4K Pro is a more compelling alternative. It runs Google TV and offers 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, giving you considerably more hardware for the money.
The Google TV Streamer was already a solid option at $100. At $150, it’s much harder to justify.
