Beyerdynamic has shown off the Aventho Y, a new wireless over-ear with a swappable battery and enough charge to last more than 90 hours.
That swappable battery is mainly down to the introduction of EU rules which have increasingly pushed electronics makers toward serviceable components.
The bloc’s Battery Regulation will require many portable devices to carry user-replaceable batteries from February 2027, even after regulators carved out exemptions for certain wearables.
The Aventho Y pairs that user-replaceable battery with magnetic ear pads, aluminium sliders and stainless-steel hinges, and owners can swap the parts that wear out fastest rather than replace the whole headphone.
An integrated storage compartment inside the earcup holds a spare battery and the optional USB-C dongle, and the foldable, ergonomic build is engineered for long-term ownership.
Battery life reaches more than 90 hours with active noise cancellation switched off, or up to 60 hours with it switched on, and five minutes of fast charging adds roughly six hours of playback.
Bluetooth 6.0 multipoint connectivity lets the headphone switch between a laptop, smartphone and tablet without manual reconnection, a feature aimed at people who move between gaming, work calls and everyday listening throughout the day.
The Beyerdynamic app also extends that flexibility further, and listeners can customise EQ profiles, browse genre-based sound presets, install firmware updates and adjust smart settings such as auto power-off, features that let the headphone evolve alongside changing listening habits over time.
Every unit ships with the same Beyerdynamic sound, features and performance, though the range comes in four colourways built around a Hear Your Why campaign that pairs each shade with a different listening mood, from focused black to a calmer blue.
Andreas Rapp, chief executive of Beyerdynamic, said the design captures the idea that “audio isn’t just something people hear” but “something they use every day to focus, recharge, connect and express themselves.”
That personal framing sits alongside Beyerdynamic’s engineering pedigree, since the German company has built headphones, earbuds, microphones and headsets since 1924 and credits itself as the inventor of the first dynamic headphone.
