Apple has finally revealed its first foldable iPhone, although there’s still a little wait before you can actually buy it. The iPhone Duo brings a passport-style design, a 7.6-inch inner display, and a 5.4-inch cover screen, with pre-orders opening on 16 October ahead of a 23 October release.
The foldable is also Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet, with an aerospace-grade titanium frame and a custom hinge designed to control the opening and closing motion. It will be available in Star White and Night Sky, with a Ceramic Shield back, two Ceramic Shield layers on the front and an IP68 rating.
The main attraction is the pair of displays. The 7.6-inch inner screen is the largest iPhone display Apple has designed, with the company claiming it is 50% larger than the 18 Pro Max. It has narrow, uniform borders designed to work in both portrait and landscape orientations, while the 5.4-inch outer display provides 90% of the screen space found on the iPhone 18 Pro.
Apple has also added a custom nano-texture finish to the foldable screen, designed to reduce glare and reflections while making the crease less noticeable. A multi-layer construction and carbon-fibre support plates help keep the screen flat, while Apple says the panel has higher stiffness and better scratch resistance than other folding displays.

The hinge itself contains more than 100 components, with Apple promising an “effortlessly smooth” opening and closing motion. A magnetic array provides the familiar click when the phone is opened or closed.
The software has also been adapted for the larger display. iOS can respond to the phone’s angle, while side-by-side apps support drag-and-drop and videos can be pinned to the top of the screen while another app runs underneath. There are also dedicated modes for different positions, including a tent mode for watching videos and a laptop mode that places controls on the lower half of the display.
Apple has fitted the iPhone Duo with its A20 Pro chip and a new Display Engine, along with a large vapour chamber. The company claims it delivers 35% higher sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro.
There’s a 48MP main camera and 48MP ultrawide, with 4K video recording at up to 120fps. The main camera can also provide 2x digital telephoto, while a new Smart Take feature can automatically capture a photo when the scene is ready.
Battery life is rated at up to 31 hours of video on the inner display or 44 hours on the outer screen, with Apple claiming up to 24 hours of general use. Fast charging can take the phone to 50% in 20 minutes, while five minutes of charging can provide up to five hours of video playback.
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, with storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB. Pre-orders open on 16 October, with the phone going on sale on 23 October.
