Boox is giving its pocket-sized e-reader a welcome refresh, with the Palma 3 bringing useful upgrades while retaining the compact design we love.
In fact, the Palma 3 keeps the smartphone-like shape of its predecessors, with a 6.13-inch E Ink Carta 1200 display running at 824 x 1648 resolution. The move to an aluminium frame should also give it a more substantial feel than the plastic-bodied Palma 2.
The biggest functional change is stylus support, which means you can now hand-write and annotate directly on the Palma 3’s e-ink display. However, unfortauntely Boox doesn’t provide a compatible stylus in the box, so it’ll need to be purchased separately at $46.
Under the hood the Palma 3 has an octa-core processor and 6GB of RAM, while Android 16 gives it access to the Google Play Store. That means, unlike Amazon’s Kindle series, the Palma 3 isn’t limited to Boox’s own reading software, and you can install compatible Android apps directly on the device.
There’s also a 16MP rear camera with an LED flash, however this isn’t designed for capturing group shots but rather for scanning documents, along with dual microphones for speech-to-text transcription.
Pricing is perhaps the most interesting part. While we’ve seen many devices see a huge jump in price this year, with the RAM crisis usually to blame, the Palma 3 has an RRP of $339, making it $60 cheaper than the Palma 2 Pro, although adding the official stylus will take the total to $366.
At the time of writing, Boox has not provided a release date just yet.
Boox is also expanding the range beyond the Palma 3. The Note Air6 C offers a larger 10.3-inch Kaleido 3 colour e-ink display capable of showing 4,096 colours, alongside Android 16 and a 2.9GHz processor.
Then there’s the upcoming Picco, which goes in the opposite direction with a tiny 3.97-inch touchscreen and physical page-turn buttons. It uses a lightweight Linux-based system focused on reading, relies on microSD for local storage and is scheduled for a global release in November 2026.
For the Palma line, though, the Palma 3 looks like a straightforward evolution: still pocket-sized, but now with a sturdier build, newer software and the option to actually write on it.
