JBL has refreshed two of its most popular portable speakers.
The new JBL Xtreme 5 and JBL Go 5 bring louder audio, updated designs and a few AI-powered tricks into the mix. Both are set to launch in April 2026.
The headline upgrade here is sound. The Xtreme 5 promises 10% deeper bass and higher output than its predecessor, thanks to a redesigned acoustic setup. This includes dual tweeters, a dedicated subwoofer and boosted power.
Additionally, it also introduces AI Sound Boost, which reduces distortion at higher volumes. There is also a new Smart EQ Mode that automatically adjusts audio depending on whether you’re listening to music or spoken content.
The smaller Go 5 doesn’t get quite as many bells and whistles, but still receives a meaningful bump.

JBL says it’s 10% louder than before with a redesigned body that improves sound quality. There’s also a new AirTouch feature, which lets you pair two speakers for stereo sound by tapping them side by side, a simple idea that should make multi-speaker setups less fiddly.
Both speakers lean into visuals more this time around. JBL has added ambient edge lighting across the range with the Xtreme 5 offering multiple lighting modes, and the Go 5 featuring visual cues for battery status, pairing and connectivity modes.
Durability remains a core focus. Both models are IP68-rated for water and dust resistance, with rubberised edges for extra protection and a design built to handle outdoor use. Additionally, the Xtreme 5 adds sturdier feet for better stability when planted on surfaces.

Battery life looks solid, too. The Xtreme 5 is rated for up to 24 hours of playback, with an extra four hours available via a Playtime Boost mode. The Go 5 offers up to 8 hours, which can be extended slightly with its own power-saving setting.
The JBL Xtreme 5 will be available in Black, Blue and Camo for £329.99. Meanwhile, the JBL Go 5 lands in seven colour options starting at £39.99. Both support Auracast for linking multiple compatible speakers, along with USB-C audio playback for wired listening.
While this new generation of its Xtreme and Go speakers doesn’t look to be the most radical overhaul, with louder sound, smarter tuning and easier pairing, JBL’s latest speakers could be a solid step forward.
